Could it be a coloured metal halide..? The coatings on each end of the arc tube suggest it's MH rather than MV. Any visible etch..?

Metal Halide as the white paint on the arc-tube ends is the give away the ballast maybe dual rated although never seen a 300W Mercury Vapor on Metal Halide M59 400W MH H33 MV some and most are dual rated but after the Mercury vapor ban the H33 was dropped on new ballasts but most will still run an H33 lamp Darn Ria beat me by 1 minute 14 seconds!

Short and fat arc tube is a dead giveaway that this is a MH lamp.

Looks like a normal 250w metal halide bulb. They could be getting the 300w rating by plugging it into a power meter which isn't calibrated for PF and is also counting ballast losses.
