Carbon Arc Lamp & Royal Ediswan Pointolite Set Up « on: August 11, 2021, 01:17:02 PM » Author: rodney126
I just acquired this carbon arc piece that I really do not know much about and am trying to identify a bit better. Also a Pointolite set up. Wanted to share these pieces with the community. I only collect early tin lard lamps so when I bought these they were very expensive with no intention of keeping them, but they are still super interesting non the less.

I don't know much about carbon arc lamps, but a useful reference site that is maintained by James, a member here, might have some useful information for you, it's lamptech.co.uk.

The Pointolite lamp is particularly interesting for me, as I have a couple of lamps, although different from the one you show, but I'm really interested you have the gear, that is particularly rare. Does the gear or lamp state a type or wattage..?

Look at the ebay listing of it, I show a close up of the specs on the bulb

Ah yes. 100 CP, 100-250V, DC supply only. That might be difficult; voltage isn't a problem, but rectifying AC to DC at that voltage certainly is  :-\

I do have a 150 CP AC lamp, but sadly no gear or a suitable lampholder  :(

As his location, maybe it's just enough placing a full bridge rectifier on main supply and a capacitor (he will get ~170V).
If is this lamp http://lamptech.co.uk/Spec%20Sheets/D%20IN%20Ediswan%20Pointolite%20150AC.htm, he can use a 5A rectifier (and a resistor before).
If some voltage reduction is needed, he can use a variac or doing some "tricks" with transformers.
