The Lamps in Bavaria shines brighter than the Sun
|
Hello, dear community, I recently got a Philips BSX 90 H26 ballast for 90 watts low-pressure sodium lamp with a suitable ignition unit. A daisy chain capacitor with 9.6 uF is still required for operation, without it it won't work. Unfortunately, you don't get such a capacitor in Germany and I don't know what else to do :-( Would any of you sell me such a capacitor? The capacitor must have a voltage resistance of at least 300 volts and 9.6 uF I would really be very grateful. Greetings from Bavaria:-)

I have the same ballast but I use two motor capacitors (475V rating) in parallel - one 8uF and one 1.5uF which gives you 9.5uF in total. The lamp runs fine with these both. You’ll find such capacitors for cheap at every electric wholesaler like Conrad, Distrelec or RS components...

You need to use motor run capacitors not motor start capacitors.

Ja umbedingt Betriebskondensatoren. Anlaufkondensatoren sind nicht geeignet für diesen Zweck! Zum Beispiel dieser hier: https://www.sonepar.ch/de/578203011-betriebskondensator-hydra-msb-mkp-15400-15uf-400500vac-kabel-ip54-756896

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know there was a difference. Then I would like to thank them very much :-) These capacitors are, as they already thought, very easy to get.

I would get a common 10 uF motor run cap as those caps have 10 percent tolerences as as anything between 9 and 11 uF but it will loose uF over time.

No LED gadgets, spins too slowly. Gotta love preheat and MV. let the lights keep my meter spinning.

A very slow loss, though. I have a big box of spare capacitors of many different values that I got on eBay from a retiring electrician. I test them all regularly and they are all still well within operational specifications.
