Please help with Philips SOX-E 131W wiring! « on: December 02, 2021, 09:30:03 AM » Author: hugoridem
Hello!

Some weeks ago I posted that I'm the happy owner of a Philips SOX-E 131W sodium vapour lamp.
Now I have all the required parts to make it work: BSX 131 H96 Ballast & SX 131 Ignitor. (Thanks Rommie!!)

I followed the instructions in the diagram but the lamp is not turning on! You can see the arc for around 2 seconds and then it stays off  :(

What am I doing wrong?
Please help, I'm a total noob in this and I need it for an artistic project :)

Here's a youtube video of the system when I plug it:

You are missing the capacitor. This circuit needs a 3.4µF 650V capacitor connected as shown on the diagram between the ballast and the ignitor.

I didn't have a 650V rated one so used a 450V one and it does work, but you do need one there.
