Crouse-Hinds Explosion Proof T12 « on: March 13, 2023, 07:32:16 PM » Author: seabeehunter
Hey! New to the group and looking for some info.
I came across two of these explosion proof T12 fixtures made by Crouse-Hinds. They were from a munitions factory at Naval Weapons Station China Lake. I’m guessing 40s-50s?
The glass tubes are stamped Pyrex! Pretty neat.
The ballasts were both leaking pretty bad and the cloth wires were shot. I’ll probably get some flak for this from the purists, but I rewired them and used direct line voltage 48” LED. They cleaned up really nice. Can’t wait to mount it up in the garage. Going to fun being that  it weighs 200ish pounds.
I’m going to hang on to one but I wanted to sell the other one. Any idea what they are worth? Google has turned up nothing. The only thing close to them are some 2 tube ones by Crouse-Hinds that look a little newer. They are on eBay for $400 each and are not cleaned up.
If you have any knowledge of these or approx year please chime in!

Why not just slap a new ballast in it and some fresh tubes? They're not that expensive. And keeping it fluorescent keeps its original "vibe" intact. LEDs just aren't the same it terms of vibe.

As for value. That's hard to say. Really that's in the eye of the beholder. Some people see that and see 5 dollars of scrap metal. Others see a Porsche. Personally I wouldn't buy it for more than 100 bucks. But even if it were 40 bucks the shipping would probably be pretty prohibitive.
