I need an idea of what kindof reflector shape I would need to focus a 1000 watt sodium source into as flat of a beam as possible! This is for a super powerful fog light I'm attempting to brew up. I plan on bending it out of shiny sheet metal or aluminum and I don't have the monetary resources to mess up several designs before figuring it out..

Probably something like this : https://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=5198&pos=41&pid=197442  I tried a clear 1000w MV in this and got a roughly 6-8" wide line of light on the wall from about 10-15' away .

That's pretty interesting.

So I need the lamp to be vertical to a horizontal curved reflector..... kinda makes sense.

Well the HPS is rather a thin rod, you want a beam that is wide in one direction and narrow in other. That brings me to an idea of just the reflective sheet bent into a parabolic shape when viewed from the side and the HPS rod placed in its (horizontal) focal line. This will make very narrow beam vertically (from the side it is essentially a point source in the focal point of a parabola), but horizontally it is essentially just a straight mirror behind a rod light source.
It should be not that difficult to make (a parabolic cutaway from a few braces, space few of them along the assemble, the bend reflector sheet then fixed into the parabolic cutouts; no complex 3D forming).
