Would Better Optics Help Reduce LED Streetlight Glare? « on: August 25, 2022, 05:10:11 AM » Author: 108CAM
After seeing some photos of the horribile glare that so many LED street lights have, I was wondering if better designed optical assemblies would help reduce glare by better diffusing the light and directing it towards the ground instead of having it shoot sideways.

Most LED lanterns already have excellent optical control, but the mistake of the glarey ones are too high of a wattage at too low of a mount height.
Its also how the diodes are caught at certain angles from the road surface that makes them seem glarey, all depends how different people perceive the way they see them?

Recently, AEL has released a diffuser option for the ATBX and ATBM, so the industry is taking note. The only issue with putting a diffuser or something along those lines is it reduces the control of the light distribution. Some designs are legitimately bad in terms of glare, such as the GE(Daintree) ERL series, with their intolerable glare.
