I remember when I was really young (around 4 or 5) I went into my dad's work room and he had a desk lamp sitting on the floor with the lamp removed. In all of my toddler's infinite wisdom I decided to reach into it and touch the socket; it felt like a very hot tingling sensation that went up my arms! Of course being that young it hurt very much and later in my life it left me wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences in relation to electrocution? In another story when I was at college, I remember one of my lecturers telling me when he was working as an electrician, he got zapped at 50 volts DC and it hurting a LOT! I've heard about DC voltage hurting a lot more in the higher amounts compared to AC, so perhaps does anyone have any experiences with DC shock at high voltages? I'd be very interested to know!

Surprisingly, no. I'm really careful with anything that runs on mains current and unplug before I do anything. I have, however been shocked by a battery before when I touched wires to each end. It felt more like a burn though than a shock.

Never a proper one, but over in 240 land I can only describe a shock as a very violent vibration within the muscles travelling up your arm! When I say a proper shock, I’ve heard your muscles contract so powerful that you can’t let go of the thing that’s shocking you!, can’t imagine what that’s like other than cramps x 1000! DC is lethal at that voltage however, I remember back in my vintage engine rallying day’s a friend of mine, (I won’t mention his name), had a 1940s generating set where he had his DC dynamo running at 200 volts……...in the rain! He was very quickly told too pack up and was kicked out of the show by H+S!

OUCH! I did similar, although it was with a medium base socket. It was one of those ones that has the switch and long plug and i had it off when i did it, It felt like a very light vibration
