I'm hoping this means they plan on keeping it around for a while, especially considering they're the last company manufacturing HID fixtures.

I love how Cooper doesn't say anything regarding the corrosion protective qualities of their paint coatings ! These things just about corrode off the pole around here !

SRP for life.

Looks as if the OVZ, OVY, and RMA spec sheets haven't been updated since late 2020. I wonder if those are on their way to being discontinued.

The bare aluminum Coopers used here seem to fare ok, I wonder if the poor powdercoating makes it worse as it just traps moisture against the metal while a bare finish can't do that.

Resolutely crack down on inferior LED lighting!!

As is Signify's usual practice, discontinued fixtures may be removed from the product catalog, so I think it's possible that these products are still in production. However, due to the fact that many cities in China are promoting the replacement of HID lamps with LED lamps, it is more difficult for me to see HID street lamps like OVZ in China.

At least the OVX and OVZ are better made than AEL’s fixtures. There’s an intersection mear my grandmothers home that has OVX’s that were installed in 2009 and look pretty good while there are 115’s all over the city that have corroded so badly that the doors completely fell off.

American Electric fell off after ITT sold it, Cooper products initially were an improvement from what Westinghouse had produced in their final years, but felt went the route of AEL later on. GE was superior.
In my opinion.

I heard about ITT selling AEL in the early 90’s, but never about Cooper being better than later Westinghouse products but yeah, GE was definitely superior.

ITT sold American Electric to FL Industries in the late 1980s, then FL sold them to Thomas & Betts in the early 1990s. Finally, Thomas & Betts sold AE to Acuity in the early 2000s.
Cooper bought out Westinghouse’s luminarie division in the early 1980s when Westinghouse was struggling. Cooper would produce the former Westinghouse products under their Crouse-Hinds brand.

I completely forgot about AE being bought out by multiple companies but never heard about Cooper selling Westinghouse fixtures. Thanks for the info and reminder!

Yeah the 4th gen OV series produced under Westinghouse left much to be desired. I suppose the electrical components were still decent but the housings lacked quite a bit to say the least.
Wonder if that's why the Canadian OV series never got this "update" and got the blunt nose redesign instead.
TBH I never really noticed that much corrosion issues with the modern Coopers and AELs, they mostly bought bare luminaires here and I wonder if they ironically was better.

Chandelier in an abandoned banquet hall

I just purchased two modern Cooper OVZs (Cooper Lighting Solutions-branded). They are PAPER-THIN!!! The door cast is so thin it feels like plastic! The light weighs like 10lb total, with ballast, lamp, and all. I mean, Signify owns Cooper now, so it's no surprise.

Sometimes it just takes time and concerted effort to learn something new. Don't give up before you get there.
