Lumec will soon discontinue the Helios « on: October 27, 2024, 05:03:36 AM » Author: Milwaukeeman2003
As of last night, I found out that Lumec will be discontinuing the Helios at the end of this year. This will officially mark the end of the Cobrahead era, since only decorative fixtures made by Sentry Electric will possibly still be made.

So far, I am aware that ISB is still producing HID cobrahead luminaires for the Mexican market. I am not sure when they will get discontinued.

I guess it was inevitable, with Lumec Helios lights being primarily used in Canadian cities, and Canada looking to ban HPS lamps in 2030 or so and with most cities having swtiched to LED.

Wonder how much a new one costs, I saw a listing for one that's $1400 CAD. That's the same cost as close to 20 used cobraheads here.

Wait, what why would someone ban SON/HPS

They dont contain mercury anymore

What kind of world we live in, just ban what u dont like, the worst thing is, you cant even get away

If it cuz of energy consumption, we have to ban electric cars first, because they consume huge amount of power

I think this statement only pertains to European market mercury free Philips SON high pressure sodium lamps.

From what I am aware of, most high pressure sodium lamps contain trace amounts of mercury.

Yeah, here they need to go into their own waste stream due to the mercury.
