Philips/Westinghouse Plant in Bath, NY... « on: February 21, 2025, 05:15:26 PM » Author: BT25
Has been demolished...according to Google satellite view. I had heard that there was a plan to repurpose...in the end, guess not.

Ooof. Meanwhile, the former Philips / Norelco facility on Bank St in Hightstown, NJ which still has SOX stuff on the exterior is still standing, with plans to be somewhat incorporated into a residential project. That site closed in the late 80s and was abandoned recently.

It's pretty sad to see all of these dilapidated and abandoned factories. There were some cool 4th gen 0v25s and a post top on a driveway at the Westinghouse factory.

Chandelier in an abandoned banquet hall

I'd say it was probably due to the sheer amount of time it stood abandoned. Probably water damage and code violations throughout.

If you look at the 2019 Streetview, you can clearly see particleboard on its windows, meaning vandals or urbexers got to it at some point. I think, economically, it stopped making sense after a number of years of blatant neglect. :(

I guess with all the production moved overseas, it wasn’t likely to be used again unfortunately. And maybe it would cost too much to convert to another use/wasn’t in a location that made sense to invest the money into unfortunately.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

Interesting you mention that, Cole, as the Salina, KS plant is now occupied by Kubota.

I think it's also a matter of timing- Bath closed in '13/'14 and just didn't have anyone come along at the right time. Salina, on the other hand, closed in 2020 (and also appears to be in an active industrial area).

Signify originally wanted 4mil for Bath, then by the end wanted only 2.5 I believe. I'm honestly surprised that no one wanted it for that price...

I think there's also a Goldeye(?) on the rear of the building...

Over here in Canada, I believe Sylvania's Drummondville, QC plant got repurposed (closed 2018) while GE's Oakville, ON plant got largely demolished. There's a front office portion that got saved and sits empty but that's it.
