WESTINGHOUSE OV-14B
|
Here is a really cool product from Iwasaki, it is a led bulb that looks about as close to HID as I have seen. It uses the same BT shape glass envelope as their HID lamps but with led diodes inside. I unfortunately have not seen anywhere that these are easily available here in the US. here is a video on this rather new product. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5ATR4N6i14

| Wow those look so cool, usually the thing that gives it away for the coated ones is that they are coated all the way down to the base, but these must use literally the same exact envelopes as the HID ones. Never seen BT shape retrofits either, that is just so cool. Very nice find, I also have yet to see them for sale.

| Very cool, it would be cool if the coated version was like the classic coated MV with the tops ad bottom clear.
External driver is probably more practical for something like this. You don't have to worry about cramming it in the lamp base and I'm assuming this is mostly intended to retrofit HID luminaires, which most of them already have a provision for mounting auxiliary equipment anyway.

Rich, Rollercoaster junkie!

| The Japanese have nailed it here, with lamp and driver, (like a lamp and ballast) they're street lighting could go back to proper old school methods 👍, it's just a shame the west will carry on with integrated flat lanterns that have to be changed completely! 😖

| I think this is a great idea, because it enables manufacturers to reuse fixture tooling, as well as often-excellent non-glare HID optical assemblies. Is it a filament LED?

I like math, lighting, computers and electronics(but I detest pointless ruinage of nice old stuff). LEDs should be better thought out. they are actually quite good if they are good quality. They should be built to a long life not to a cheap price! Freedom's not slavery, communism is!

| Looks to have 24 COB chips . I highly doubt ANY manufacturer has any of the tooling or equipment left to make conventional HID style fixtures anymore .
