There are a few types of light fixtures (All HPS) that are currently used in Worcester MA (formerly serviced by National Grid, now owned by the city, serviced by Wilmington Wire since 2010).

The most common fixture currently, by far, is the GE M250R2 (50-250 watt) and has been a common sight since the HPS conversion of the late 80’s - early 90’s

However, along every main road etc.. (from early to mid 2000’s) the Cooper OVZ (50-250 watt) fixtures have shown a good presence as the fixture of choice of National Grid, scattered among the masses of GE250R2’s.  National Grid had switched from the GE M250R2 to the Cooper OVZ and back to the GE M250R2 a few times during this time period until Wilmington Wire took over maintenance in 2010.

Wilmington Wire uses the Cooper OVX (250-400 watt) fixture as their choice of new replacement fixtures and re-uses any older fixtures in Worcester’s current inventory.

The other fixtures that Worcester has currently in their inventory is listed below:

GE M400R3 (400 watt; used since 1998 to present)
Cooper OVZ (50-250 watt; used since early 2000’s)
Cooper “post top” lights (50 watt; that replaced the last of the old green poles in 1993-94)
Cooper OVX (250-400 watt; gaining a presence here and there since 2010)
Thomas & Betts Model 115 (35-150 watt; showing up slowly since 2010)
King Luminare (black “antique” fixtures installed in downtown areas, 2005- present)

Some HPS fixtures that are also in inventory but are much less common now and are fading fast from the roadway (due to attrition) are these fixtures:

Cooper OVS (50-250 watt; installed from 1990-91)
Thomas & Betts Model 113 (50-250 watt; installed from mid to late 80’s,
Thomas & Betts Model 25 (250-400 watt; installed from the mid 70’s to 1987)
Thomas & Betts Model 125 (250-400 watt; installed from 1988 to late 90’s)
GE M400R2 (250-400 watt; installed heavily from 1988 until the late 90’s)
GE M400A (250-400 watt; installed from early 70’s to 1988)
GE M250A2 (50-150 watt; boxy powerdoor installed early-mid 80’s)
GE M250R1 (50-150; installed late 70’s-early 80’s)

Some of the rarest are the FCO fixtures that were installed from the early-late 80’s. A lot of them had their flat glass swapped out in favor of globes (refractors) like current fixtures. No FCO's installed thru pressure of residents wanting more city lights to cover their private properties. I prefer the FCO’s optics over the fixtures with globes. This is one reason (out of many) that the Worcester sky shines bright orange at night.

Hmm. Well, technically those city STREET lights are meant to light city STREETS and not private property. >:( Those residents need to stop being whinning babies. ::)

Like, if they want light on their garden they can install a light of their own

If the city swaps the optics to FCO and the lamps to 1 step lower power each, then reduces the taxes by the amount of power saved, it'll pay for the residents. And they could be convinced to install floodlights of their own in they property, for use when they actually need them, of just a 9W PL meltlight for full night instead of spills from 250W HPS streetlight
