it looks like the paint was painted a long ago........the paint looks old......well sorry I can't be any more of help but I gotta tell you this fixture is really impressive I would love to take it!!!!

actually u have been alot of help i can't believe it was going to be just junked a very good friend that works in the repair business was like hell no !!!!! and sent it my way today i just cleaned the glass globe and i think u call it the reflector in side the globe the green paint is going ot be removed next any ideas if i should leave bare metal or paint it again and what color should i paint it ?  also od u think it is a ge type 79 after all ? ill post sme newer pics in my album in a few min thx again for the info and knowledge i sure love it !!!! ::)

mr joe m jr just got back to me since atleast to me he's like a jedi master in streetlight history hes says my light now is older from the 30's to 40's so i am very very happy right now  ;)

I asked one of my friends if what you have is a GE Form 79.....he said yep it is!

remember it is not a GE Type 79.....  its not the word Type  its Form.....so its a GE Form 79

I realize this is an old thread, but what the hey! I'd say late 40s-early 50s too. I have one also, but with a standard slipfitter arm mount. The refractor is also GE 206. The top half is natural colored aluminum. So if you strip it, just leave it like that!

Hopefully you can use some restorer to restore the glass and hope you can get a good spraypaint job on the metal parts. and hopefully make a trip to Walmart and buy a GE 100 watt CFL Daylight 6500K to put in that Form 79 or a trip to Lowes and by a Sylvania 100 watt CFL Daylight 6500K. I think one of those two will light well inside the Form 79.

6500K Color Temperature Kelvin lighting works for me. I use 6500K CFL in all my incandescent light fixtures. I use 6500K Flurescent bulbs in my flurescent fixtures. I hope prices get better and hope I find 6500K LED lighting in the future. I love energy efficient and Energy Star products. Way to go!
