I've noticed there has been an increase in off topic postings as of late e.g. a current posting of a front load washer and it's functions. Why can't we keep it on the subject of lighting ( hence the name Lighting Gallery ) and save the server space for exactly what this site is intended? What's your feeling?

Most forums of specific areas (For example: HWzone.co.il , the Isreali computer forum), have also off-topic forums. Also embedded Youtube videos, barely consumes space on the server, since they are on Youtube servers, and are embedded (Not uploaded) into the site. Also, I try to upload the less off-topic pictures as possible.

I"m don't speak English well, and rely on online translating to write in this site. Please forgive me if my choice of my words looks like offensive, while that isn't my intention.

Some forums are strict on their content, others seem to allow just about everything .. I think in specialist forums such as this it's nice to see a few related subjects posted now and then, I feel it is only a problem when it detracts from the intended direction the forum owners and core membership wish to follow.
Some forums are too stifling in my opinion and won't allow members to follow the natural course of conversation if it happens to stray off-topic, for good reasons maybe as the owners wish to keep the forum as a specialist interest site without having to read through hundreds of unrelated topics. I'm pleased that is not the case here.

IIRC back when the site first started there used to be a fairly strict lighting only (or very closely related items) rule for both the forum and the gallery.
I personally don't mind a off topic section but I guess setting up both a off topic section in the forum and a off topic section in my gallery might be a good idea to get to know one another better. A hide off topic pictures and posts option might also good for those who don't want to see non-lighting related stuff.
It's up to the admins to decide whether this is good for the site though.

IMO some off-topic stuff is okay since it usually comes up in the normal course of conversation, but maybe an "Off-Topic" section like on GOL would make the site feel more organized? Just my two cents...

From what I understand, the issue is not with discussions going off topic, but members uploading off topic pictures and starting off topic threads.

In that case, couldn't we just add a specifically-non-lighting-off-topic section?

I think an off-topic section of the forum would be very valuable to the site. I think it would allow all of us to connect more by sharing our knowledge and opinions on other topics. A great number of us here are electrical engineers and electronics technicians, and so could probably give such a section a good workout. As it is, I've been itching to post for some assistance in diagnosing a deaf CB radio I have, but I'm biting my tongue.

Nope, this is for lighting-related discussion that doesn't fit in any of the other forums.

We've had a huge influx of off-topic photos uploaded recently. It seems we could really benefit from an off-topic forum. Those photos could be posted there, perhaps? It's awesome to see photos of other stuff because a great deal of us (including myself) are interested in those things, as well, but as it is right now nearly a quarter of the photos uploaded in the last two days have been off-topic, and it's starting to turn the home page a little weird. Just my $0.02.

6500K Color Temperature Kelvin lighting works for me. I use 6500K CFL in all my incandescent light fixtures. I use 6500K Flurescent bulbs in my flurescent fixtures. I hope prices get better and hope I find 6500K LED lighting in the future. I love energy efficient and Energy Star products. Way to go!
