I had 2 jeeps that had the 5 speed trannies.  An 89 Cherokee, and an 89 Wrangler.  They were fun but that was when I was younger. Now a days I appreciate the auto trannies.  Now.. If I had a sports car I might enjoy a manual but we'll see.

I replaced both the receptacle and cover plate in my bathroom . The previous brown leviton 15a duplex had gotten worn to the point that plugs wouldn't stay in properly.  The cover plate was one of the real wood ones . It's so thick that the receptacle was slightly recessed by about 1/8" below the face of the cover plate . Is the plate what killed the outlet ? no idea ! I installed a used lighted hospital grade Ivory 15a.with EOL lighting I removed from a truck at work along with a normal plastic cover plate I got from ReStore for 25¢  This setup consists of a 2 gang box with a switch on one side and the duplex on the other . The switch is still the previously installed brown one .

Those wood plates were always super thick. Today I prepped one of my snowmobiles for summer storage and put the battery back in the motorcycle for the first time in 2 years.

@ Ria :  I've always heard of them being called "outlets"  I picked up "receptacles" here on LG . Honestly , having them in the bathroom is no different to me than having them in the kitchen , the garage or out in the yard . You can still get shocked when wet .  Now , if they were in the shower / tub area I'd have a BIG problem with them !  @ fluorescent lover 40 : My problem with the wood plate is that it wouldn't allow a larger diameter plug (hair dryer) or something like a plug-in air freshener to by plugged in all of the way .  The hospital grade was a freebie as a customer complained about the internal lighting not working in their ambulance .   @ icefoglights : exactly ! this plate could've been made way thinner than it is .

Yeah, we do have them in the kitchen, and far too close to the sink for my liking. But a bathroom tends to be a lot steamier, and ours is so small you couldn't fit one in there anyway without it being within touching distance of someone in the bath. As for drying your hair, as I said it gets steamy in there, and the mirror is useless..! We dry our hair either in the hallway, where there's a big mirror, or in the bedroom where there's an even bigger one..! And not near any water, either..! Outdoors I always use a 110V centre-tapped transformer as used on construction sites to power anything I need out there, which isn't very often.

Here in the U.S. anything in a wet or moist area is SUPPOSED to be GFCI protected My house has NOTHING !    I remember watching my mom use the electric hand mizer in a pot sitting in the sink !

The house I grew up in was built in 1973-74 and only had one GFCI protected outlet on a GFCI circuit breaker under the house in the crawl space.  They must have considered it an "outdoor" outlet, which was a new requirement in 1973 instead of a "crawlspace" outlet which wasn't required until 1990.  The bathroom vanity outlet wasn't a GFCI, as that wasn't required until 1975.  The kitchen counter outlets weren't either, as they weren't required until 1987.

@ Tim - All our sockets are RCBO protected at the consumer unit (breaker panel) rather than at the sockets themselves.

Typically ours are as well . The GFCI outlets are nice when you only have one that needs protection .

@ Tim: It's better to be safe than sorry.  Though it is useful to have a socket equipped with an RCD when an appliance is prone to trip the RCBO back at the CU... Especially when there's a lot of STUFF in front of it.!

On 120v, there's more of a chance of a GFI circuit breaker registering line loss as a leakage to ground and tripping if a load as at the end of a long run.  That's where GFCI outlets are nice, because they can be placed close to the load and less likely to trip that way. Today's project was getting ready for spring.  Took my truck to the car wash, took the snow tires off and put on its brand-new summer tires, changed the oil and replaced the windshield wiper blades.  Also Washed mom's car, took the snow tires off and put her summer tires on.
