I have an old Style house f40t12 in an RS shoplight fixture in the basement. The fixtures are permament, and they even say "do not use energy saving lamps" on them. THe lamp has no blackening, despite being switched on a few times a day. I am not sure if this lamp is rare and I shouldn't use it. Is it a rare lamp?

Down with lamp bans!

If you have a modern lamp available, I'd use that instead. Style House lamps are somewhat rare.

I have some GTE sylvania from the 80s in my 4x20 preheater and two GE lamps from the 50s or 60s and a 90s lamp in my 3x8 preheater.

You have a 4x 20w preheater? Those things are really cool. Also, by 3x8 preheater, do you mean 3x4? I have never heard of preheat 8' lamps.

There are preheat 8 foot lamps in the UK, but I speak of f8t5 lamps.

Rare white reflector
|
One of the vintage F40CW lamps in my garage failed two nights ago. I saw the end blackening and knew it was going EOL. Sure thing, before I knew it, it began strobing! Was a Sylvania Lifeline F40CW from the 1970s.

I have a blackender f15t8 Agro-light made by Westinghouse. I want to use it to grow chicken fodder (grass that chickens eat), but is it a rare lamp that I should just preserve?

Definitely preserve it, and any vintage looking mercs you might also use. Buy modern ones at lowes. They aren't expensive.

I have four of the same Agro-Lites and they're definitely not something I'd use all the time.

Preserve, Home Depot and Lowes have plenty of those Agro F15s.

Why I like LEDs on top of other lighting tech? LEDs = Upgrade 95% of the applications. (That is if you avoid eBay's LEDs).
LED brainwash? No, people uses them cuz they work well for them.

If I have a vintage lamp that has seen use, chances are I'll stick it in a vintage fixture once I get one, and occasionally use it. If it's an nos lamp, I'll savor it's newness and use it when I'm near EOL. If I found duplicates of, say, my 1954 GE daylight, I'll put them to the test and use them as examples of phosphor decay in old lamps.
