Tower Strobe Beacon Lights « on: January 18, 2018, 11:45:44 PM » Author: lightinglover8902
I was thinking of finding a tower strobe beacon light, like a Flash Technology FH 324 (FTB 324) with the PC 324 controller, just to get more in depth to it. I know they take 500VDC, which is kinda dangerous, but a xenon type. Anywhere to find a tower strobe beacon light? I know they have them on ebay, but they're expensive, worth like $1999+. Anywhere to find one, thats cheap, with the controller?

There is a few abandoned towers around here........ but the risk of being caught is high... the taking down of the light would not be too much of an issue, since I could easily rig up a pulley system on the tower (Do the same type of work for stagecraft) But most of these towers I speak of are next to busy roads ...

That building no longer exists, it was the old News channel 3 building, the tower still stands

I'll also give you a heads up, most of those lights if they are on an active tower are alarmed (Light Failure Notification) so they know when they fail, or get removed because the FAA gets upset when they are not visible to planes flying overhead at night...

This might be a long shot, call any major cell company, the phone companies here sell surplus/old stuff, they might point in the right direction, and if your going to call ask to talk to someone in there vertical real estate department, those are the people that lease tower space so they would be the ones to talk to, (yes you can rent space on there towers if you need it)
but don't be surprised if the first couple of people you'll get to talk to will just try and sell you some cell service or upgrade you don't need confusion seems to be the norm in cell companies call centers...

There are a couple of tower technicians (who work on towers), in my area. I could ask them, if only they're replacing the xenon beacons, with LED ones. That could give me a chance to have one of these beacons, but I doubt it.  :-\

Beer works wonders offer a trade, and one might accidentally get dropped off a tower into the trunk of a car..

lol @Lodge, how about a bottle of Coca-Cola, or root beer, that might work with them. Since tower technicians are hard at work, at doing the climbing.

I never cared for the LED tower lights... the Xenon seems more effective. also, if not beer try coffee... I kinda see what you're getting at LL but beer does work...

Plus, I also like TWR beacons, especially the E1DBSL which is a day strobe (xenon) on top, and a LED beacon on the bottom. Which looks like this.

It looks really nice, in matte blue. By the way, the image is from ebay.

you see thats a good application for LED... you got the RED fader beacon (LED) for night time which is very effective... then you got the Xenon for day flashing which has been proven effective for a LONG time.... I've always hated the Daytime LED flashers... they're not that bright or noticeable.

Yep, and by the way, TWR actually made the right decision to put a xenon day strobe, and a LED red beacon for night. Which is their first strobe beacon on the market, yet its still being used on new towers today. Because its a very effective unit, which I like it. :D
