LED lighting has its place in the home or other indoor uses, but outdoors in street lights is in my opinion not one of them.

I don't disapprove of LED's for domestic and other indoor use, I just don't like them for street lighting.

Welcome to LG! Is the light you speak of Orange by any chance?
You might have an LPS (Low Pressure Sodium) lamp

Or an HPS (High Pressure Sodium) lamp

Did you burn your parents carpet with the LU1000?

Nope, lol, Back then I was running it off a 100W HPS ballast, it barely even got luke warm... I'm sure that was not good for the lamp...
