2 lamp F40 ballast running 1 lamp. « on: December 31, 2018, 06:04:51 PM » Author: Lightingguy1994
I'll keep this short and sweet

I know you can do that by going red to blue on any magnetic 2 lamp F40 ballast which is pretty cool and makes EOL interesting, but what should I expect if I used it like that permanently ? Are there certain brands that are best for that? I would only do this with my modern 'meh' ballasts that are around .64a.

Reason is I only own 4 HPF single ballasts but have ideas that need more than 4 strip lights. So to save money I would just use some two lampers and shunt them to one. Would also like to use F34s

If the lights are arranged end to end, you may well feed two fixtures from one ballast...

That is true but then two fixtures would be out at the same time at EOL so id like to keep the fixtures independent

And how difficult is to replace the lamp?
If it is easy, I won't see any problem with that, just have somewhere few spares at hand, so you can swap it without loosing much time...
If there are already many fixtures and each place is lit from more than these two (neighboring row,...), I guess even a nonworking pair of lamps could still be temporarily acceptable (till the lamp gets replaced)...

Its not the difficulty in replacing the lamp, it is just that i wont be replacing lamps right away. To make my lamp stock last longer, there will only be one day a year for relamping. So fixtures must be capable of being EOL for extended times without interfering in overall light levels. It will also look neat at startup with each lamp on it's own ballast
