Thorn SRS tripping problem « on: January 22, 2019, 06:40:09 AM » Author: Anselmo1
Hey all,i have a 4ft twin thorn SRS pop pack that i was using in the garage until the other day it tripped the lights as soon as i flicked on the switch.
Its been up & working around a year & a half,it has tripped out after about an hours use a couple of times, now it simply does it constant. I eliminated it from the rest & have taken it down. The rest work normally now. Just to be sure it wasnt a power surge problem or anything i wired it up to a plug & tried using it that way but still tripped the garage out.
I was lucky enough to come across it in the first place so dont really wanna let it go. I know its vague but just wanna see how i could get it back working again.Would it be the ballasts or capacitors or maybe something else i should look at?

It looked like your fitting is grounding/ earthing out
meaning there is a leakage current.  first check all wiring
that no bare wire is touching metal.  then Next get your meter out and check ballast or metal cap by putting one prob on metal case of ballast and input teminals. It should not be any reading. if it is that means winding is
grounded out to the ballast iron core.

No LED gadgets, spins too slowly.  Gotta  love preheat and MV. let the lights keep my meter spinning.

What breaker the ballast trips? If it is the RCD, so funkybulb is right. If it is the main breaker, so probably the ballast have a short.
