| Columbus Ohio seems notorious for getting hit with random potent thunderstorms that form and then drop southeast, completely missing my area lol... this wasn't the case tonight, but I've noticed that a lot this year. Not sure if they were tornado warned or not though. Seems like thunderstorms are currently developing over Columbus right now.

| I also forgot to mention that the power did go out for a brief moment, just after the tornado siren music shut off, while I was walking on the sidewalk just outside of my apartment, looking at the skies. I ran back inside when it started raining. When it was all done, I noticed that my smartplug for "Tandem 1," (the first two F30T12 fixtures in tandem, close to my window) was knocked out. I had to manually get it back online, which I ended up doing successfully. Seems like power outages can be brutal on smartplugs.

| Yep! I had all of my lights off during this, since I wanted to see what was going on outside, so hopefully none of my lights saw any damage. All 14 fixtures seem to be working with no issues. That storm was a wake up call. I did not expect severe weather tonight.

| I'm about to correct my previous comment. I meant 14 fixtures, not 15... 11 F30T12 fixtures and 3 single lamp Trigger Start fixtures (one F15T12 and two F20T12's.) Those storms caught me off guard too. Had it not been for the Tornado Sirens, I would not have known there was incoming danger.

Somewhere There Is Light(ning)
|
hopefully none of my lights saw any damage. Its pretty unlikely that a magnetic-ballasted light would be damaged by power flickers or voltage spikes...unless you're talking a direct lightning strike. .lol. Now, electronic ballasts or those smart-plugs, they could be taken out by a spike or surge. Had it not been for the Tornado Sirens, I would not have known there was incoming danger. Which is exactly why the sirens exist They did their job of warning you! ---- Had a round of non-severe thunderstorms move through my area tonight. Forecast mentioned the specific possibility of night storms starting a bit after dark. I was outside late afternoon & didn't see much chance at that time. Then looked out sometime after dinner & noticed clouds were starting to build.. ..and in a certain way I recognized, where I was like 'I think its gonna do it'. So I was kinda expecting something (& hoping for it too) Then I looked at radar a hour or so later, and sure enough little cells were starting to form They grew to a point where I decided its time to grab the camcorder ... was gonna go outside to watch & video, but the little storm had arrived. After it passed by, me the tripod & the camcorder went out for some stormwatching. .lol. They hit the nail right on the head with that forecast. (as did my look at the clouds & recognize a specific setup/possibility we get here & 'I think its gonna do it')

@xmaslightguy, and to think there are actually some people out there that are *hoping* to get rid of tornado sirens. In states or parts of the country where tornadoes are well known to touchdown and be violent, it's...extremely idiotic... to take down tornado sirens, regardless of reasoning. Even if it's cost effective, it's a very stupid move. They save lives. The moment the tornado sirens here began winding up, I heard it immediately. They're very loud, as they should be. The girl in the apartment across the... ehh, sidewalk?... from me, also popped out of her apartment to take a look. She saw me walking on the sidewalk. I'm pretty sure by now she probably knows that if I'm taking a look at the storm or if I'm outside viewing it, it's probably serious. It think she may have taken cover shortly afterwards.

| So I drove to Chic Fil A to get something to eat. During the drive there, as I turned into the neighborhood right behind my apartment complex, I quickly noticed there were some trees down, and that the entire neighborhood was without power. So the entire street was dark, other than the LED street lights. There was some damage from last nights storms.

Electrician with a heart like a raccoon

| Down here in Fort Lauderdale they were talking on the local weather station that a powerful Nor'easter is supposed to sweep down from the New England area this Saturday and blow all the way down through South Florida. Not sure what this means for everyone up in the Northeast but for us down here it's expected to finally bring the sun back and relieve us from heavy rain everyday for the past week. Last week both Fort Lauderdale and Miami airports grounded all departing flights for several hours. But anyway this weekend that Nor'easter is supposed to dry us out finally with low humidity, an exciting thing to say in Fort Lauderdale in September and give us lots of sun reaching about 86 in the day and possibly the upper 60s Sunday morning! Certainly looking forward to that!

@BuzzyBallast, over here we've got good weather on the way too. Lots of sunshine expected into this weekend, I believe, and very mild temps, down to 70 degrees. I haven't heard anything about the powerful storm set to hit the northeast, but I'm guessing it will probably be the extreme northeast, and not us here in Ohio.

@suzukir122: I don't think from the map I saw on the local weather the Nor'easter will have any effect on Ohio at all but it sounds like you got a perfect weekend of weather ahead. I'm kinda an amateur weather watcher but I'm pretty good at figuring out what the weather will be based on the clouds. Hopefully the Nor'easter won't be to strong for everyone in the Northeast but for us down here we'll take the heat and humidity relief but especially the rain! Geez it's been to much rain even by Florida standards.

| We have been getting a lot of rain as well, but tons and tons of days of way too much heat and humidity. I'll take that over winter weather any day, but still, I don't like extreme heat.

| Heat I don't mind as it's easy to cool off it's the humidity that makes life miserable and there's no easy way to get comfortable in it. I don't blame you though I guess it won't be much longer before another long Ohio winter sets in. Are you from the Columbus area? That's the part of Ohio I do know.
