GE Cobra Date Codes « on: September 16, 2019, 06:58:16 PM » Author: wide-lite 1000
I have 2 GE Cobra Heads, a M1000 and a M-400 the date codes are as follows : The M-1000 is ZX  & the M-400 IS ZY . Both are in pieces and I'm curious as to the manufacture dates . I haven't posted any photos of them yet since they're disassembled and I'm not sure what all is missing yet

 - Thanks, Wide-Lite 1000

Somewhere online there's a chart with the codes but I can never seem to find it. You think I would save the page, by now.  Roll Eyes

What I was given by another member:
_A - 1965
_B - 1966
_C - 1967
_D - 1968
_E - 1969
_F - 1970
_G - 1971
_H - 1972
_J - 1973
_K - 1974
_L - 1975
_M - 1976
_N - 1977
_P - 1978
_R - 1979
_S - 1980
_T - 1981
_U - 1982
_W - 1983
_X - 1984
_Y - 1985

The "_" would be replaced with A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L, or M for the month of the year, A being January and M being December.

Which seems wrong..

The information I have found online is:

Determine the month of manufacture based on the first letter of the serial number. The letters correspond to the month in this order -- A: January, D: February, F: March, G: April, H: May, L: June, M: July, R: August, S: September, T: October, V: November and Z: December

Begin to determine the year of manufacture based on the second letter. GE uses 12 letters, which repeat every 12 years. The letters used and the initial year for each letter are as follows -- A: 1977, D: 1978, F: 1979, G: 1980, H: 1981, L: 1970, M: 1971, R: 1972, S: 1973, T: 1974, V: 1975 and Z: 1976.

Add multiples of 12 to the letter date year of the appliance until you obtain an appropriate year of manufacture. For example, if the second letter is an R, the appliance was produced in 1972, 1984, 1996 or 2008.

This is where I found the information.

It looks like the year codes I've listed are off, but if you combine my month codes with GE101R's year codes we might get somewhere.

Okay on further looking I have found this table that gives a clear breakdown of the codes.

Thanks for the help. I have found that GE appliance date codes are totally separate from GE street light date codes. Similar but different on some aspects.

Thank you all for the help with decoding these !. I did manage to forget however that I posted a pic of the "ZX" 1000 w M-1000 back in April https://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=5198&pos=53&pid=158959  Roll Eyes (getting old SUCKS !) It was decoded as Dec. '63 so I would ASSUME that "ZY" would be Dec. '64  ?

Nice to see everyone working together !

 Thanks Again !
