Span wire NEMAs on the Interstate? « on: June 23, 2019, 12:56:45 AM » Author: wide-lite 1000
This is on I-75 in Michigan just South of exit 9 at a weigh station https://www.google.com/maps/@41.8239253,-83.4352365,3a,19.6y,44.59h,98.26t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sNtKpl-xyMp1UK_37qhFtuQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656  I saw these at dusk and they appear to have been converted to either LED or MH   They look to be Powerlites

Any one ever seen this before ?? You may have to rotate the picture so see them .

Interesting, I've never seen them on the interstate. There used to be some in my town but they have been long removed, I believe they were mercury vapor.

Autoroute 40 near Montreal, QC used to have a very unique spanwire LPS setup that ran parallel to the freeway in the median. I believe similar setups were used to light European freeways but this was the only such installation I knew of in North America.

Unfortunately this unique setup was removed in 2013-2014 and replaced with a more conventional HPS high mast setup.
