What is your most expensive Bulb? « on: January 03, 2020, 10:37:07 AM » Author: Michael
What is the most expensive light bulb in your collection? For which bulb did you pay the most?

For me it was a new fluorescent bowed tube T8 36W with clear ends. It was made as a spare for my Lazzurro s1 fixture. It set me back about SFr. 230.00

The most expensive if you include shipping was probably our Philips SRS201 135W SOX lantern, which came to £89.90 all in. After that, probably the 250W and 400W MA/V lamps, which were just over £70 each plus shipping.

We'll have to go through all the past invoices to double check though, but that's a start  ;D

I think mine was a NOS 1950s Philips 80w HPL I got off eBay for $42.50 or a NOS 1960s Sylvania 100w clear BT 25 lamp that was for around the same price. I believe the rest of my lamps were Restore bargains.

What are they used for across the pond?
I’ve mostly seen them in miniature high bay fittings, that are used at much lower mounted heights if that make any scene???, the fittings resemble a scaled down version of UK high bay lights that were popular in factories usually using 400 watt discharge lamps, but the mini version I’ve seen used most in retail outlets on lower ceilings, running either 70 or 100 watt halide lamps, their quite impressive to see in use, however newer versions of the same fittings now have an LED diode bank replacing the lamps.

Thanks for the information. Kind of like a miniature low bay fixture.Interesting!
I think the high bay/low bay lights in the UK could be slightly different than the US version, so pictured here is what we would call a high bay, these take 400 watt lamps, but the 100 watt HQI-E I’ve seen used here are in a smaller version of the fitting in the photo, so would you guys call this a low bay?

Ah right, I’m with you now, some of these have aluminium diffusers some have glass, but usually the smaller ones are glass.

Most likely this 55w SOX. Don't remember how much I paid - but probably somewhere in the $ 20-25 range.

$25..? That's not much  ;D

Thinking about it, our 140W and 200W SLI/H lamps were probably the most expensive if you include shipping, the 200W one was £60 plus £20 shipping, but it was packed VERY well in a length of 4in drain pipe, I think you could have driven a truck over it without it noticing  :sli:

I usually don't buy expensive lamps and thus my most expensive one is 70w coloured double end mh lamp. I think the price was closer to 100€
