What is happening? « on: October 01, 2020, 08:55:01 AM » Author: Metal Halide Boy
In 2018, while I had chicken pox, I got this1950s? GE motor. When I turned it on yesterday morning, it sounded as smooth and quiet as ever, but yesterday evening it sufferd a fall of about 1 foot, and when I turned it on again, its humming sounded weird and white smoke started coming out. The wiring was correct, (you really can,t go wrong, ther`s only two termanels). Does it need rewindng? Or do rewinding shops even still exsist? Please help!

It looks like there is a short across section of the winding (the enamel broke).
It could be the fall was the last straw making the winding insulation to fail.
