Dazor lamp switch issues « on: August 15, 2026, 09:43:56 AM » Author: Emersyn
My Dazor lamp has had switch issues since I got it (shipping didn't treat it well, one of the tubes with it was crushed into dust), but recently it has been acting up more. The front lamp's cathode heating sometimes doesn't work, and sometimes pressing the red switch pops the black switch up, but the lamps don't actually get heating and I have to press the black switch and then the red switch a few times for it to work. Today it did work, but when I came back later, the lamps were off and pressing the red button isn't heating them. As usual though, if I press the black down again and then the red it works like normal. Also sometimes there's this weird arcing noise that comes from it. It's not a normal high voltage arc sound, but almost like a static noise sound during heating.

Dirty? Corroded? Would need either replacement or cleaning. You may start with a contact cleaner, but likely will need to disassemble the switch.

I will do that if it gets worse, I've seen the switches and they don't look easy to disassemble.

If the switch is mechanically not behaving as should, its a mechanical problem. It may be jamming up due to foreign object or some lubricant hardening

As a hack to get it going, if the "start" button only has one pole failing, you may use the good pole to control a 2P relay, which then will preheat both tubes

The little arcing sound would be consistent with little arcing going on in the NC contact of the "off" button - Which may need cleaning or some fine tuning to provide proper pressure between the contacts when they are supposed o be connected (and not just barely touching). This will destroy the contacts if left to go on

Or the sound is just the way how that ballast buzzes (there are ones that have weird sound to them). If unsure, disassemble the ballast from the lamp, reconnect it through a length of wire, and listen to it and to the rest of the lamp individually
