Lots of LED street lights I see now don't seem to be very blackbody-focused (or whatever they call it). They look yellowish instead of normal CCT colors. What I am thinking is that this is some sort of way to decrease blue content while maintaining fair efficacy, but that is just a wild guess.

They just look kinds weird, thought I would ask, not that it really matters. Does anyone know? Never seen this in domestic lighting applications for obvious reasons.

I too have observed this. I was under the impression that it is a manufacturing defect of some sort, like the purple LEDs.

The reason I figure it is not intentional is because my car's side mirrors have "approach lights" that fire daylight-colored light at the ground when the doors are unlocked or opened. Sometimes, inexplicably, the color will instead be the same yellowish color that I observe on some LED lights in parking lots.

alot of street lights areound here morphed into warm white. either that or they are actually 3000K. I am fine with this "failure". Better than the morgue white garbage color 5000-6500K. I don't like the night time atmosphere of "Cyberpunk Dystopia Commie Blocks" but without the neon. I am glad they are failing yellow. maybe they will turn back into sodium lights.

I've noticed brand new RoadFocus RFMs have a tendency to look yellower than they used to.

Hard agree with @HomeBrewLamps, the yellow color is certainly a lot more pleasing even if unintentional. I think I've seen a few Philips lanterns suffering from this too.

One street near me is lit with LEDs that look very much like HPS. I think it is not a defect, just one of the color choices a municipality can choose.

With politics here forcing municipalities here to get rid of their 'expensive' engineers and experienced own maintenance crews to get a 'small government', it has resulted in a hodgepodge of colors because every contractor uses their own style and color. The civil servants who are in charge of choosing the right contractor don't always (or often don't) know much about lighting at all, just about the finances, the schedule and 'does it meet the number'. But if you don't know what the numbers mean, you cannot standardize on a light color palette...
One tunnel is lit with 2200k, another with 2700k, another bunch with 3000k PL retrofits etc etc.

Some parks and cycle routes now have gorgeous 2700k LEDs which looks absolutely spectacular. Another one has a cycle path that has odd lanterns that only contain red + green (literally) probably to avoid disturbing wild life in the park next to it - yet, on the car road next to the cycle path, there are old Industria lanterns that were retrofitted with 3000k LED boards (rather than drop-in replacement lamps) making the choice for the odd greenish lamps on the cycle lamp really weird. I guess every bit helps, but i'd then also expect them to deal with the 3000k leds that emit copious amounts of blue pump diode light.
