15 watt Champion bulb in fixture « on: August 06, 2014, 01:49:04 PM » Author: Larry
Normally I don't post desk lamps, but here is a old Mitchell desk lamp with what appears to be a 15 watt Champion bulb.
This could be the original bulb with this fixture. ;D
Looks like a new bulb. :D
I know there are some LG members that are always on the look out for Champion bulbs.

Two black ender Westinghouse 15 watt bulbs a little worn but still works.

These old Westinghouse black enders seem to keep on going a long time even though the ends turn black.
A big twenty story office building I worked in that was built in 1963 had all Westinghouse 277 volt drop in fixtures and black ender bulbs.
In 1974 most of these bulbs were still going with blackened ends, but just not very bright.
But they just kept on going anyway.

One of the reasons that most the old black enders were eventually replaced was not because they were burnt out, but because for example in a lobby if you replaced the bulbs in one fixture, now that fixture was brighter than all the other fixtures making the other fixtures look dim.
So the building supervisor did not like the look of one bright fixture among all the other not so bright fixtures.
So out went most of the old faithful Westinghouse black enders in the lobbies anyway.

Replaced with new GE 3 type bulbs, which were of course brighter, but did not seem to last very long. ::)
I tossed a lot of 20 and 40 watt that still worked Westinghouse black enders in the dumpster from 71 to 74.
I never even thought at the time that some day they may be worth saving.
But you can't save everything from over the years because if you did you would need a giant warehouse to store it all in. ;D

That is kind of what I thought too.
I had several Champion bulbs back about 1963 and this one looks similar.
I know there are some LG members that are into Champion bulbs and this old Mitchell desk lamp with the Champion bulb would be a nice addition to any collection.
