I've always wondered what the smallest magnetic Quartz Metal Halide is... the bulb, the wattage, the fixtures available, and the *magnetic* ballasts available. The keywords here being: quartz, and magnetic. I'm not talking about ceramic or electronic here, since I've got enough of those. I really like the electronic ones, but my original favorite has always been the magnetic versions. So I'm wanting to obtain the magnetic versions, but the *smallest* ones available, with the least amount of watts used. (Unfortunately the 400w Metal Halides will have to wait.) So anyways, anyone know of any?

I know about 50W pulse start MH (two of them are waiting for me to complete the 120V resistive based ballast experiment), the smallest probe start I've noticed were 175W. The smaller pulse start 35/39W I've seen only in CMH, the lowest 20/22W in CMH and electronic ballast only.

Don’t know about ballasts, but I’d have said the smallest quartz halide lamps are the automotive ones?

I actually think quartz 35w PSMH lamps do exist, they're only available from generic Chinese manufacturers and they're usually G12 though.

@Medved, looks as if that 50w Pulse Start MH will be in my searches. If at all possible, maybe I can make table lamps out of them. That... would... be... sweet. 175w Probe Start isn't completely out of the question though, but that's a little too high in wattage for me... for now. That could change later on though. @Lumex120, do you know if those 35w PSMH you're referring to are used with magnetic ballasts? If they're quality lamps with quality 120v 60hz ballasts, I'll definitely be on the look out for them as well

There are magnetic ballasts designed for 35w and 39w pulse start ceramic metal halide lamps, but they are pretty uncommon. I have one myself and I have used it to run a 35w SOX lamp.
