Australian Sylvania street lights « on: July 31, 2022, 08:27:39 AM » Author: HIDLad001
I have wondered about these for some time. Did the Australian Sylvania streetlights have anything in common with the streetlights made by GTE Sylvania / Powerlite here in the US? Or was the Australian Sylvania a completely different company? Also why are the photocells mounted on the bottom?

Hopefully some Australians will be able to answer my questions.

Not sure, but I do know that Schréder acquired the Australian Sylvania street light division in 2020.

Sylvania Lighting Australia was once part of GTE-Sylvania. Many of the lights made throughout the 80's and 90's have the GTE-Sylvania logo embossed on their castings. As for the photocells, some Australian lights do have them on the top but most have them on the bottom. Not sure why but it may be something to do with Australia's electrical codes.

Weren't some of the models sold by Sylvania/Powerlite in Canada also used in Australia too? I believe the B2227, B2255, R37, and R47 all made it to Australia. Of course Sylvania Australia also had a lot of locally produced models that were never sold in Canada too.
