I was thinking about the Atlas Alpha 8 for a couple of days about why did Atlas not make a LPS version of the Atlas Alpha 8. A 90w SOX bulb or 60w SLI/H bulbs would fit perfectly on the canopy door.

Anyone know why did they not do a LPS version of an Atlas Alpha 8, or was it because it was too early to make a LPS version?

Also, they could also make x2 35w SOX bulbs if Atlas could, and if I either a get one- that's exactly what I'm going 

No, they didn't make either. The lantern was explicitly designed for 2x 250-400w coated MBF lamps. A SO/H or SLI/H lamp wouldn't optically perform properly inside the lantern. There were already other SO/H or SLI/H Atlas lantern models, so the extra tooling was completely unnecessary. Additionally, the Atlas Alpha 8 weighed about 20kg, a 140w SO/H Atlas Alpha 1 would have weighed >5kg, making it a complete waste of material.

Put simply, there was no reason to spend all of that money to develop a more complex, and wasteful version of something that already existed.

The reason I'm using SO/H instead of SOX is because that was used instead of SOX 9 times out of 10 in thr mid to late 1960s.
