Advanced LEDs Marlin Introduction « on: April 21, 2025, 07:49:48 PM » Author: Eleco_SR304
This may be a late post as this lantern as been launched on the 5th of January 2010, but a couple of people may never seen/heard of this lantern, so here is the introduction.

I read some article about the Marlin LED lantern. They said that apparently this lantern is the first low energy lantern to be designed and it is to consume 70 percent less energy than conventional Streetlights. They apparently have the potential to reduce the UK's carbon footprint by 853,013 tonnes the article says. Is this true or is this some (explicit) to make the councils buy the Marlin, because not a lot is seen around UK! Futher details can be seen here:

https://www.buildings.com/architecture/article/55256187/eon-and-advanced-leds-ltd-introduce-led-street-light

Then I found a video about the Marlin LED lantern that tells us a bit about the fixture. This guy said that apparently they believe the product will revolutionise Thomas Edison's famous invention. He also said that the Marlin does the same job as conventional streetlights, but more efficiently. He also said that the clean white clean light makes the public a lot safer and Remploy in Coventry improves colour rendition for the Marlin. Again, is this true or just to make the councils think the Marlin is a good, efficient, safe lantern to light the UK roads? Futher details can be seen here:

However, I do like the Marlin lanterns. I love the design and the function but what makes me hate this lantern is about how the people are trying to make/force the councils buy the product. I believe most of the info are lies but however I cannot tell if this is true or some (explicit) that they want to make business on. My last words.

Usually I collect bulbs (Mostly LED) and some HID ones. I also own a couple of streetlights, but most are made in Poland.

However, I mostly prefer SOX bulbs. LED bulbs in their efficacy will never beat SOX bulbs, in my opinion.

The reason that many early led lanterns were rare was because they cost heaps! Many councils didn't have the money to do full led upgrades. Led became more popular as it also became cheaper.

The classic lights of Canberra are few and far between, this just means that I get know each one better!

Ok but here's the thing. If they said they made the first low energy, then what about the earlier LED lanterns than the Marlin, like WRTL Stela, which could use the same wattage (meaning same energy I believe) as the Marlin. Then I could say they are saying a lie, because other earlier LED lanterns used the way energy as the Marlin 1000  ???

Just correct me if I'm wrong, because I just don't get their add  :slap:
