Here’s something to lighten the mood.

This year, Lighting-Gallery officially turns 20 years old. Sure plenty has changed, but I’d consider this a significant milestone. 20 years of lighting photos, lighting discussion, insight, and members sharing technology used worldwide. Shouldn’t L-G have some anniversary celebration every some (like 10) years? Things such as a limited edition logo, a lamp of the month series, trivia, site updates etc.?

Just an idea I thought I’d bring up.

Crazy to believe that this site is 20 years old now!

I cant seem to find it on the web-archive but I do seem to recall there was a limited edition logo for a time during one of LG's previous anniversaries :)

its a bit surreal that when I first started browsing LG it was only a few years old now its 20 years old this year :), I think I first discovered LG in about 2008? I have fond memories of listening to "Finger Eleven - Paralyzer" on early youtube on the family computer way past my bed time, while browsing LG and its back catalog at the time, marvelling at all the neat lamps, and dreaming some day that maybe ill find some! and all the crazy and silly experiments that went on as well :) the Galleries of pslawinski, J-Frog, Don93s, falko667, Prismatic, mima, joseph_125, sparkie, DaveMan, and so on, they all bring back much nostalgia for me when I find myself back in their older uploads :)

and at one point database shat itself and all of Max's uploads had the same information fields across all of them of the same 100W Iwasaki self ballasted mercury lamp! gosh I remember that being so annoying as Max would have an upload of some special lamp I wanted to know the specs of, but nope "Iwasaki" for you LOL

finally made an account in 2010, when I was just 10 years old! its safe to say LG has been a fairly major part of my the fair majority of my life at this point!

I also like the fact that LG's layout/theme has not changed at all for as long as i have been on here, its nice to have that bit of stability and familiarity :) same for James's website, which again I first discovered in the mid 2000's

I am not actually 100% sure how I came across LG in the first place, but it may well of been through the links section on James's website that seems to ring a bell, but I know back then, I often just put "lightbulb" into google and browsed for lighting that way

which is how before LG I discovered the http://www.bulbcollector.com/index.html website, funnily enough tho, I never realised until many years later that, that website had/has a forum section of its own! I always just thought it was someones personal website, my mum sent them an email on my behalf seeing if she could a properly-vintage lightbulb for me at the time, but alas they never responded

anyways thats enough reminiscing about the past for one post I think :)

Awesome story @LightBulbFun! :D
Mine isn't too different either except for the fact that you joined 9 months before I was born!

Just checking in! I have been a member here right from the start. I'm still active with collecting incandescent and mercury vapor lamps and street light fixtures, etc, etc. I sign-in with this group every now and then, although I haven't contributed anything for years. But I'll update with a few things pretty soon! I'm also into collecting/researching insulators, too. With all of my hobbies, it is difficult to spend time involving them at times because I've got a lot of other responsibilities that have to be taken care as a priority on a daily basis. Anyway, things on this end have been well overall and I trust the same with all of the other folks within this group! Talk soon!

Perhaps reverting to the original green theme of the site in the screenshot above, for a month or so when the anniversary is here?

The old theme doesn't work at all on the forum side anymore.  It's mostly functional in the gallery, but buggy.  I could possibly enable it for a minute to take a screenshot.

Nice blast from the past. When I first found LG in 2007 or 2008 that green theme was still used on here. By the time I joined in 2009, the current theme was already in use. I think there were some minor tweaks over the years but for the most part the blue theme stayed the same.

In the early days there used a be a sister site to LG called metal-halide.net You can see parts of it archived but it resembled the old green LG theme. It was a personal site by LG's founder to showcase his lamp collection. Unfortunately he stopped collecting lamps and took the site down. The domain is still active, it merely redirects you to LG now.

IIRC I think LG might have had a special logo for the 10th anniversary in 2015.

We were very late getting the internet! , so I had no idea that special interest forums even existed!
I remember one night, I was on 2/10 shift at work, I wondered if a lighting site existed?, I wasn’t even familiar with the word “forum”🤣🤣
I don’t remember what prompt I put in, but the first thing that came up was some British site about gardens and landscapes that had a lighting section!
I read through it with interest but it lacked what I was looking for?
I then put in street lighting, and as predicted, loads of contractors came up offering services, but scrolling down I came across pictures of American street lighting, and linked to the pictures was Lighting Gallery. net🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳, I’d found it, what I thought was just a dream of mine, (a forum 100% dedicated to lighting), was actually ‘a thing’

I joined in 2011 under Linear SLI/H, but stupidly left when my interest in lighting hit rock bottom, and re-joining in 2016, the rest is history 👍
