Modern HID lamps showing up on Etsy as “vintage” light bulbs « on: October 12, 2020, 05:11:48 AM » Author: WorldwideHIDCollectorUSA
Has anybody taken a look at etsy to find old light bulbs? When I have done my searches on etsy, I have been noticing some relatively modern HID lamps such as MH lamps being listed as “vintage” and being used for “decorative” purposes. When I type in “vintage light bulb”, “large light bulb”, “steampunk light bulb”, or “industrial light bulb”, modern HID lamps often show up.

Take a look at this listing where modern 400w American probe start MH bulbs are listed as “vintage” and “for decoration”:

Looks like a fraudulence website.

I actually scored a Westinghouse lifeguard mercury lamp from that website about 2 years ago.

If you put in vintage mercury vapor, you'll get two results. One for a Norelco H39KB-175, and a used Westinghouse Lifeguard H33GL-400/DX.

It is pretty interesting to see some of these HID lamps being listed as “decoration only” items since these sellers do mot have the ballasts to test these bulbs.

I have also seen a Sylvania H33CD-400 lamp listed as “vintage street light bulb” on eBay for about 75 USD if shipping is included.

I've never bought anything off Etsy before but my understanding it's basically another online marketplace with independent sellers geared towards the craft and vintage communities. Not everything is a "fraudulence website", at least do some research before you make sweeping statements like this.

Anyway I find them to be more expensive compared to eBay so it's either eBay or local for me.

The sellers are calling these lamps vintage because they don't know any better and the accepted definition of vintage is more than twenty-five years old.   ???

According to Sammi's definition, antique is vintage times 4 as they "officially" call an antique 100 or more years old.
