I'm not for or against incandescent ban but I'd just like to point out a few things they say on that site that are certainly not true.

"CFL Bulbs are problematic for individuals suffering from epilepsy."
No, CFLs with electronic ballasts don't flicker at all.

"Most CFL Bulbs are not practical for indoor use. They create less light and are (predominantly) unnatural in color."
No, CFL creates much more light for the same wattage as incandescent.

P.S. Halogen bulbs are not banned, there are incandescent "retrofits" with standard dimensions and with halogen capsule in them, which produce more light and last longer than the "old" incandescents. The price of these will (hopefully) go down to "acceptable" levels  :)

I'm much more worried for the mercury vapor ban which is about to happen in Europe...

Well some of issues are different in the USA than in Europe...such as we are having more CFL fires because of added internal parts in USA version CFL.....also the CFL are much more duller quality of light than incandescent. Also CFL has lumen deprecation, but its true that less wattage brighter...however it doesn't match the color and light quality! Also I see some cases when some people actually screw in CFL in MH, HPS and even MV medium base fixtures!!!!!!!!!!! So what I think is, to continue BOTH incandescent and CFL........unless there are type of incandescent that are more effiecent.... I will rather use LED over CFL as of now since LED (so far what I have seen for GE (only the expensive types, not the cheapie ones) did pretty impressive, although the life rate is still unknown for me...

Good work Jace. Actually, part of the reason CFLs burn up is because of poorly designed ballast circuitry, and USA's electrical safety standards in such lamps isn't as strict as Europe. Also, some autistic people can still perceive the flicker in fluorescents even run by electronic ballasts, while most of us can't.

I actually noticed a few CFL flicker actually.....they are much faster and unnoticeable than the magnetic...funny thing I seem to notice flicker as I wake up outta bed LOL

That's weird, the electronic ballast flickers like 70,000 times a second.
But you may be right, some CFLs could flicker a bit, especially older ones as the capacitors dry out, because the voltage is not well filtered and "sags" a bit every mains zero-crossing. But still nothing compared to magnetic ballast  ::)
