Haha that's awesome! I saw a house like this last year with the synchronized music/lights but that's the first time I have seen something set up to shut off a streetlight.

Do you mean that you think the spots are LED?
If you look closely at the video, you'll see the spots all power on, probably to warm up, before they emit light. I wouldn't be surprised if he is using HID spots, probably some kind of short-arc setup.

hate to pay that power bill though. 

A guy my father knew who also did elaborate Christmas light displays also would have the streetlight right outside his house turned off during shows.

Not sure if I can find video of his display, especially since the guy passed away 6/7 years ago .

I was once reading online about animated Christmas light displays and this particular house had a large multiple channel controller. They set up one channel to a steady laser and aimed it at the street light photocell and programmed it to be always on, shutting off the street light during the evening. At 10 or 11 pm, when the whole system would shut down for the night, the street light would come back on to finish the night.

Here they usually turn off when the portable MH floods move in for the NHMS races or construction projects.

Interesting, I was thinking how if I put a street light in my yard, how I would have it turned off at the holidays when I put up Christmas lights. I guess I have too much time to ponder such things.
