Osram circolux EL 12W « on: March 05, 2021, 03:43:07 PM » Author: Roland Huisman
Today I've got three lovely little Osram circolux EL 12W lamps.
I have also the first 25W Circolux with capacitive ballast and
the 18W with electronic ballast.

Funny enough, all these lamps have the same size FC6T9 tube on it.
But I can't find any information about these 12W versions...

On the 25W version I've once replaced the FC6T9 tube with a new one.
I wonder if the 12W is just the same tube on a lower current/dimmed...

Regards, Roland

The 12W Circolux - EL was marketed only a very short time. Here you find it the catalogue from 1985, page 21 (in German) language:

Thanks for the link! I didn't know they were so short on the market.
That makes me wonder when the 25W version was introduced.

I could not find them here in the EU so I got one from the US.
For me it was an obscure tube which I had never seen. The only versions I
knew back then were 22W, 32W and 40W. Then I discovered the 20W FC6t9 tube.

But it is not clear to me what Osram did in the 12W version.
Is that a special tube, or just the standard 20W version on lower power?
Personally I think the latter. But I'm not sure...

All three 12W lamps are working. But they have a high mileage...

Here is my repaired 25W version on youtube... https://youtu.be/_tFT4HIgscY

But then how to get some reasonable shipping cost...
That is the biggest problem nowadays... Back then I paid more
then the value of this Circolux lamp. But I didn't care back then.
I just wanted to have it going again to relive happy memories...
And suddenly I had four 25W, one 18W, three 12W and one 24W versions.

Indeed the Circolux EL I remember well since my childhood as well Circline lamps in general.
The first Circolux 25W lamps were introduced around 1982 I guess. Then in 1985 they got the electronic ballast.

I have a couple of them but only 18W, 24W, the later 28W and 32W.
