People being sent to go and get all these fictitious things reminds me of when I was working in Germany. On my birthday my boss at the time thought it would be hilarious to send me to go and get a 'long stand' from the stores... Unfortunately for him, I was wise to this practice. Off I went to the stores and went up to the counter and said to them, 'My boss has sent me over here for a long stand, I know you don't have any, so how about a cup of tea instead.?' I got my cup of tea and returned half an hour later to work, then told the boss in a gloomy voice that I had been waiting around for ages only to be told they didn't have any.

Goodness knows, silly is what we all need just now... And that's what we do best.

Silicone coated bulbs, eh? Interesting idea, if it really works to prevent bulbs from shattering, but I'm guessing it didn't last long?

No idea how long they'd last in service, we've only lit them to see if they work. Maybe someone else might be able to tell you.

As incandescents they have been around for a long time. I know GE made them, possibly others did too. I have a few silicone coated MVs too. These are self-ballasted and 240V. They are unmarked but 100 or 160W I would say. Medium base, white inside phosphor with a B-17 (I think, no end dimple) bulb. From the 70s I understand, never seen anything like them before.
