Whenever I see that many members in North America look at lighting that requires a mains supply that is higher than 120v such as 208v, 240v, 277v, 347v, and 480v, I see that they often think that such lighting is useless. I wonder why most North American members are so opposed to getting step up transformers for running light fixtures and control gear that require a mains supply that is higher than 120v?

They are pricy and my bulb budget every year is a shoe string.

I have a 120-240v step-up transformer, and its great to have for testing (or running in temporary setups) 240v stuff like the fluorescents with UK ballasts I've got. But for 'normal use' its not something I'd want...an extra 'box' to have on the lights, and another level of inefficiency.
