does anyone here collect locks? « on: May 11, 2021, 12:38:14 PM » Author: RadxD461
I've been into padlocks all my life. I was wondering if anyone here collects padlocks too.

I have a small collection of them. I don't have anything too special though. I don't actively collect them but if one shows up for a good price, I'll get it.

Moving this to off topic, as it isn't lighting related.

No problem. I'm surprised you forgot though, I think a large percentage of the site traffic these days is off topic, no idea why  ;D

My first thought was wide or narrow, as I'm writing a book about travelling round the canal network in England. So the answer there is 788 so far and counting...  :mrg:

I collect locks, however not really padlocks. I tend to collect various cylinders and keys. I have no Best (or any SFIC, for that matter) but I have some Corbin (or Corbin Russwin), Sargent, Schlage, a few Abloy, a Medeco and a few off-brand. I also have a key duplicator and lots of various blanks.

Although time consuming, there is a certain satisfaction to hand-filing a new key for a lock.

Well, I don't exactly "Collect" padlocks, but I've sure got a lot of them. Some of them look fairly old.

I don't collect locks but I kind of find them interesting, especially door locks of the skeleton key variety. I also really like old doorknobs.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

I love door knobs.
I found the remnants of one while metal detecting, I have it somewhere.

Back in the days when it was common to have a 5 lever mortise lock as the main way of locking the front door I had a key that opened three different flats I lived in.! :wndr:
