HID, LPS, and preheat fluorescents forever!!!!!!

In the EU, will all other fluorescent lamps in the EU besides T8 tubes such as PL-C, PL-S, PL-L, circline, T5 miniature, T5 HE, and T5 HO be banned by the 2023 EcoDesign laws that were originally supposed to ban the 2 foot, 4 foot, and 5 foot T8 tubes?

Indeed, because this kind of long lamp contains a large amount of mercury, it is very harmful to the environment. In China, the production of T8 halophosphate lamps is also decreasing.

I've been collecting light bulbs since I was 2 years old and I've been collecting them ever since. One of the few Chinese users here Note: Bulb base in China:E12(CES) E14(SES) B22d(BC) E27(ES) E40(GES)

No only the most common length of T8 lamps will be banned: 600mm(18W), 1200mm(36W) and 1500mm(58W). See here: https://www.radium.de/en/service-tools/news/ban-t8-fluorescent-tube

Kappa7, your reply is half correct - only the lamps you listed will be banned due to their poor efficacy.
However alongside the efficacy bans there is since end 2021 another newer law that affects mercury. So in addition to these types you listed, virtually all other mercury-containing general lighting white fluorescent lamps will be banned in Europe due to their mercury content.
Rommie, if you cannot work out the extremely obvious answer to your question from the stated lamp powers, please use an online conversion tool instead of expecting the members here to do such menial double-work for you every time world standard measurements are stated in our posts. This is becoming rather tiresome. Nobody else asks you to convert your own posts into metric every time you use your own preferred units! Please try to accept that different units are commonplace in different parts of the world without expecting everyone to align with your own increasingly obsolete position.

@ James, I was only half serious, I can work it out, but I felt a bit flippant then, sorry I am getting on a bit, and having been brought up with imperial measurements it can be hard sometimes. I resent change, and having metrication forced on me affects me just as badly as the LED situation. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Original topic, Not another lot going It's becoming a 'one size / type fits all' approach, and that simply won't work. We need variation, specialist light sources, etc.. LEDs are presenting a challenge of their own. All light sources need to be kept warm to operate correctly. All light sources create heat of their own, so that's not a problem. LEDs however, are the only light source (to my knowledge) that need to be kept cool to operate at optimum efficiency. This means that there will be some environments LEDs simply cannot work. If LEDs are the only light available, you're pretty much stuck. James, Personally, I don't see it as that big of an issue. Maybe because I'm good at maths, maybe because I'm use to doing conversions, or maybe because I like helping. Whatever, when I post something where the measurements are important, I put both down so all sides are happy. You prefer a particular unit, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I've noticed that people on this site can be quite vocal when voicing their complaints / disagreements with others. And while that is perfectly fine, my nature is to try to be the peacekeeper. That's my speech. It wasn't a pop at you or anyone else. Rommie, Off the top of my head: T8 18W is 2ft, 36 watt is 4ft, and 58 watt is 5ft. Now the maths: 300mm or 30cm ~ 1ft 600mm = 60 cm, 60/30 = 2 | 600mm = 2ft 1200mm = 1.2m or 120cm, 120/30 = 4 | 1200mm = 4ft 1500mm = 1.5m or 150cm, 150/30 = 5 | 1500mm = 5ft Whelen out

In that case, that would mean that all non integrated CFL lamps and linear T5 tubes would be banned by 1 September 2023?

This an E- Mail I got from Signify on March 23. It’s in German. Feel free for translation... it means that at least Signify talks about total discontinuation of fluorescent lamps.

Will the UK and other countries outside the EU be affected by these bans in 2023 such as Poland, Ukraine, Russia, etc.?

But the date is already fixed for the total ban of fluorescent lamps? From what I understand the most common T8 lengths will be the first to be banned in 2023 because there are already many LED alternatives. This is not true for less common lengths. I hope at least that the color temperature and CRI options of the LED tubes will increase, because as today High CRI tubes (>90) and 2700k tubes are quite rare.

After European market fluorescent tubes get banned, I am interested in knowing if there will be any ways to get them secondhand and have them shipped anywhere in the world since I enjoy collecting lighting from anywhere in the world and I am interested in trying to stock up on some so that I can have enough for fixtures in my dream house.
