Westinghouse H38-4JA/W? « on: April 06, 2022, 04:39:45 PM » Author: joseph_125
A bit expensive for me but these are pretty uncommon lamps. Seller says they have 4 of them.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/185375364935

The pictures and the title mention H38-4JA/W but the description mentions H38-4MP/DX so it might be worth asking the seller for clarication about the model. Might be a case where the lamp types were mixed.

Wow, those are definitely rare and they even look NOS!
We know for sure that at least one is really a H38/4JA/W because the etch is pictured, but as for the others it could be a mixed case. I bet I can guess who here might buy them…  ;D
Even if some are just /DX they’re still clear-top BT25s which are awesome anyway.

I’ve always been interested in all kinds of lighting, mainly incandescent and HID, and especially all kinds of sodium lamps (HPS/LPS). I’ll tolerate LED but I’m not a fan of it.
I’m not proud to say that my city has Devolved to LED.

I just messaged the seller for clarification . While a Westy cleartop /DX is nice , it's not worth paying that kind of price for IMO !!

Ahh thanks for asking about them. I know I said I wasn't going to get one but the seller sent me an offer so I'm in for one. 3 left now. :mvc:

Plus I figured it's a /W and those aren't that common. It'll display nicely in my OV-10 too.

I do really want a /W lamp, however i would much rather a higher wattage version as i would have to search for a ballast for this lamp and that would be quite difficult as there is no probe start metal halide equivalent (which are much cheaper and easier to find)

I hear that a 70W/M98 ballast will drive a 100W/H38 lamp well...I personally have never tried it.

Yeah I still have one light with a M98 ballast fitted that I used to drive a 100w H38 lamp. Just make sure to disable or remove the ignitor. eBay also has proper H38 ballasts but it seems like they're aren't much offerings right now.

This one isn't too expensive for a M98 ballast although you might be able to find one for cheaper locally.

I was debating getting one but im quite low on cash at the moment. Hopefully more of these pop up sometime (and preferably in 175, 250 or 400 watt)
