The updates aren't done automatically, you can choose which of the updates to do, or indeed not do any of them.  We use Fedora, the same Distro that Linus Torvalds uses, so if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for us.

Atlas OS has the update component completely removed. The update menu does nothing.

Yeah, it’s unfortunate because when it worked, I loved using it, so much so I even preferred it to Windows! Maybe when I upgrade my laptop computer, I’ll have to look in to a Dell Latitude 6440 or 6430 because they seem reasonably cheap.

They are, the one I'm using now (after my original one was stolen in London last year, I've ranted about that elsewhere..!) cost me £90 including an extra 16GB of memory. It's an i7 as well, so really fast on Linux.

In the end I got it working perfectly & never had any issues after that. Don't expect to be able to do it through the 'window interface', you're going to have to do allot of it in terminal/console with command-line text. (I was perfectly comfortable doing that having learned on DOS - before windows even existed .lol. I'd also used actual Unix a bit too.) (Oh.. memories from "the good old days" LOL of computers)

Don't like Ubuntu, the command line options are different in Debian compared with what I'm used to in Fedora. Also the security isn't as robust in my opinion. Anyway, as I've said before, if Fedora is good enough for Linus Torvalds, it's good enough for us  Been using it for the best part of 20 years and never had a problem I couldn't easily solve.

Since Ria introduced me to Linux I haven't used anything else.  All I need is the office suite of programs and LibreOffice does everything I need.  As for search engines we avoid Google like the plague and use Quack Quack Gone.

If I was ever to do another Linux PC, Fedora is one I'd try...just because of what you've said about it on here, and I've heard Ubuntu has spyware in it now (don't know forsure, just something I read online .. I simply had it blocked from connecting to any ubuntu-servers)
