Love it. Interesting to see how much effort they put into making such a lamp that seems meant for office/drafting work, yet does not have any color rendering to speak of. God i want it. Wouldn't dare to move it, the amount of mercury is definitely a bit scary!

These probably survived from obsolescence used for some photo work. Exposing orthochromatic materials or blueprints, or may be some kind of photoresist. Note the address of the supplier is in Rochester - a Kodak town. I think this is not coincidence.

As a bonus liquid mercury cathode has practically unlimited life, and probably not limited for a number of starts - though the glass may get solarized over time and lose some UVA/blue light transparency.
 
Yes, one thing I would be personally a bit afraid - the lamp contains a substantial amount of mercury and if it accidentally get broken, cleaning this up will be a major effort...
