100w mercury vapour lifeguard h38ll-100. 70W HPS ballast « on: September 03, 2024, 04:55:01 AM » Author: Timlx1
Hello,

I just did a test run with a 100 w HH38LL Westinghouse lamp. After a bit of researching around here I discovered from here that a 70w HPS ballast should work and it did.

Here are some readings:

I used a ballast with no ignitor, I haven't chosen a power factor capacitor yet.

Startup voltage across the lamp was about 20v and over 1 amp (I foolishly didn't write this down..) Supply 230v 50hz

As it heated up the voltage settled at approx 128v @ .79A It was nice and bright and not too bad a colour. That's approx 101w

The end goal is to retrofit this lamp into a outdoor lamp for a shed it may never exceed 300 hours a year, so could last forever..

Id like some advice to see if I'm on the right track with these measurements I also was wondering how much UV escapes the lamp and if it can operate base up or down?

This is my first post, please advise me if I need to move it. If anybody asks, I'm working as an apprentice so any work I do will be to Code in Australia and this is all part of a bit of extra learning.

Cheers

Tim
