									| Just found out that Minnesota has apparently become the latest US state to ban fluorescent lighting starting in 2025. Additionally, it appears that Minnesota is the first US state to enact a ban on any sort of HID lamp, which would include mercury vapor lamps. So far, I see no evidence of high pressure sodium and metal halide lamps being banned in any US states so far. | I live in Minnesota and it feels like this kind of came out of nowhere. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. I think the restrictions based on mercury content are a bit more sensible than the usual energy efficiency ones at least, but it's not like fluorescent or anything other than LED is going to be in widespread use within the next few years anyways. One thing I'm concerned about is that a local lighting distributor to me (lightbulbs.com) has a huge inventory of unique fluorescent tubes, including colored and foreign ones and I don't know if they're going to be forced to dispose of them or not. | |

									| The forced disposal of unsold banned lamps is one of the things that irritates me the most about lamp bans because this means that many of these banned lamps will suddenly become rare. | |

									| At some point, I feel like there will be a time when the prices of fluorescent, HID, and other non-LED lamps will be overinflated on eBay like I have been currently seeing with incandescent and halogen lamps. Like $500 for a case of 10 F40T12 tubes or $1,000 for a case of 6 high pressure sodium lamps. | |

									| There’s a good chance that they may continue to sell them until their stock runs out. | |

Wow that is even more extreme than the EU laws, which always (as far as I know) allow sales of existing stocks forever. Also, that is not very environmentally friendly. | |

									| I have also been getting nervous about Japan’s 2027 fluorescent lamp ban because I have been seeing very little documentation regarding their fluorescent lamps too and would really like to get more for my collection. | |
