Harbor Freight still selling circline fluorescent magnifier lamps? « on: March 03, 2025, 10:19:23 PM » Author: Cole D.
I noticed Harbor Freight here still sells those magnifying lamps with a circline fluorescent lamp. The label on the ones I saw showed a date of December 2024, so I assume these are still being produced and not just older stock.

Has anyone noticed this? I’m surprised they aren’t using integrated LED.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

This is the last year they're allowed to be made in the EU afaik so they're still made somewhere. Circlines had a few years of extension. I can buy no standard fluorescents there but there are still 40w circlines available at my local Hornbach. Sadly only color 840 which to me is the least interesting color out there and not usuable (color wise)for my living room fixture.
Sylvania branded, i haven't checked where they're made.

Had few of those at my previous work. The entire lamp canopy and cover (they have cover over the tube) are made of plastic. They become discolored, if not borderline crispy, within the lifetime of the 1st tube

Ok for low hours use, but don't expect much from it if left on all day like it would in a common workshop environment

I am using the parts from the broken ones (arm, magnifier lens) to repair the proper ones with the metal canopy and bare tube

Any improvements I could make to it?

You can try. Remove the front cover so the tube is not enclosed, it will run much cooler. And add a reflector inside to cover all plastic surfaaces exposed to he tube. This can be with Aluminum foil glued in, i wonder how reliable/long lasting would be just spraying its insides with bright metallic color or similar spray. (Disassemble and mask it properly)

I love these things/  Got a better quality one a number of years back from off of EBAY.  It came with a crummy 6500K tube, so I replaced it with 4100K and I like it.
