Staffordshire LED replacement program « on: April 30, 2025, 03:29:11 PM » Author: 180wSOX
Staffordshire has been undertaking a program of replacing 47000 (of 94000) street lights, according to their website and all the behind-the-scenes documentation i could find. However, even excluding the LED lanterns installed before this program commenced, the replacement rate seems much higher than this. I believe a small amount of SOX, SON, CFL, and CMH still remains though for now. Does anyone know what their plan is? To replace all of the non-LED street lights? Or to keep some? Personally, I hope that they don't replace all of it as it's the last SOX stronghold of the UK and it would be a shame to see all of this go.  :lps:

It certainly will be a shame to lose it all, but it will happen ☹️, there’s still a few SOX installations between Stafford and Stoke, but they oddly seem to be 55 watt SOX mounted in Philips MA90s 🤨, not sure whether Staffordshire council has run out of stocks of 90/66 watt lamps? 🤔

If they haven't changed the gear, that won't do any good for the lamps... As of late 2024, most MA90s and other 90w SOX lanterns in the county were still running 66w though, so I'm not sure if they've actually ran out, but it's possible given that they're still using Philips who ceased production over 5 years ago now.

Heres the kicker though, I don’t think they are changing the gear? 😬, after having this conversation with other members, I think they’re just ‘using old stock up’!
Apparently places in Europe are doing this exact same thing 🫢, it is a shame for the lamps though?

That really won't do any good to the lamps. I'm not an expert, but i suspect that because they're overdriven the lifespan will be shortened significantly (which will in turn only increase the maintenance rate needed and make the stockpiles deplete even faster).

They're using mostly Holophane S/R-Lines with some V-Maxes too.
