‘Olompia’, who knows this trade mark for lamps? « on: August 24, 2025, 01:35:45 PM » Author: Olav
During a collectors' meeting in Germany, a hobbyist friend showed me a mercury vapour lamp of the type HQLS 250W, which was undoubtedly manufactured by NARVA in East Berlin in the GDR in the second quarter of 1967.

The special thing about this mercury vapour lamp is the fact that the name NARVA is missing on the lamp base and has been replaced by the name ‘Olompia’. I was completely unfamiliar with this name.

It is the first lamp manufactured by NARVA that I have ever seen with this unusual trade mark.

Who knows this name ‘Olompia’ and for what purpose (perhaps export) was it used?

Now further information has come to light.

A document has surfaced that proves the name ‘Olompia’.
The document is not directly related to lamps, but to fixtures.

It is dated 10 September 1966 and is the daily report of the stand manager of the company ‘VEB Leuchtenbau Leipzig’ at the 1966 autumn fair in Leipzig.
The name of the company ‘Sherkate Olompia Ba Massoulitate, Tehran’ is specifically mentioned here.

It can therefore be assumed with a high degree of certainty that the name ‘Olompia’ on this HQLS 250 mercury vapour lamp manufactured by NARVA in East Berlin (GDR) in 1967 is related to an export to Iran.
It would be interesting to know why the name ‘NARVA’ was not on the lamps, but rather the name ‘Olompia’.
